I lay in bed and I felt the snake slide across me. In the winter they seek warmth and sometimes crawl into bed with you. It was a little after midnight and I woke with a fright as it skimmed over me and headed into the covers towards her side of the bed. I pulled back the sheets to see if I could see it. Everything was dark so I stood up and turned on the light. That’s about the time I started coming to my senses. There are no poisonous snakes indigenous to this part of the country. She woke up to ask me what was going on. “There are no poisonous snakes around here are there?” She looked at me a bit strange and asked me “what?” “There are no poisonous snakes around here.” I apologized and told her to go back to sleep. I turned off the light and had to walk around the dark apartment before I laid back down. I haven’t been visited in years. I could almost tell you to the day the last time. When a shadow snake crawls across you when you’re sleeping, you’ve been visited. Much like when you’re bitten by a spider. Omens. Feels good to be spooked. In the missle silo the worms sometimes crawl right out of the wall… as big as your arm.
