Daren Burns* asked me to be involved with an art event by Improvising Composers United last weekend at the Pasadena Library. He was going to be performing a piece he had composed, with the help of a group of musicians and a dancer,.. and he wanted me to lend my voice by reading some of my material. It had been several years since I had read in public. In fact it’s probably been about 5 years, so I was excited to get the opportunity. The title of his piece is “How Many Deaths Are Enough?” I had written a late-night rant a couple of weeks prior that I thought might fit with the theme, but I also wanted to scour through some of my past works. I ended up staying awake very late the evening before the performance,… not only looking through my stack of printed out pages and computer files, but also continuing the rant I had written the other week. It turns out that the new work would fit his piece perfectly and I finished reading when they hit the last note. I’ve added the written work to my MIND section and invite you to have a read of my most recent work…
